Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation visits NFIU
Bucharest, Romania. Admiral Manfred Nielson, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, visited NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, as part of an official visit to Romania.
Admiral Nielson (DEU Navy) was received by the NFIU Deputy Commander/EXO, Commander Juan Ozores (ESP Navy).
Commander Ozores, together with key NFIU personnel, discussed with Admiral Nielson about the role and mission of the HQ in NATO, the cooperation with the Host Nation, and about future developments. CDR Ozores highlighted the achievements of the HQ with regards to Host Nation relationship, training and exercises, and involvement in raising awareness about NATO in Romania.
This significant visit highlighted how important NATO regards the NFIUs as a Force Multiplier. Admiral Nielson expressed his appreciation for the hard work carried out by NFIU ROU and its personnel. He offered SACT’s support to the NFIU to make it even more operationally effective and to ensure that such a unit of highly trained and experience multinational staff is being utilized in the best way.
During his official visit in Romania, the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation also visited the National Defence University, the Multinational Division South-East Headquarters and had a meeting with General NicolaeCiucă, the Chief of Defence.
Admiral Nielson has been in service for 40 years and he assumed in April 2016 duties as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
Allied Command Transformation’s mission is to contribute to preserving the peace, security and territorial integrity of Alliance member states by leading the transformation of military structures, forces, capabilities and doctrines. The mission must enable NATO to meet its level of ambition and core missions.
