Cooperation between NATO allies- 1st CANADIAN DIVISION and NFIU Romania
Monday, 3rd of October 2016, NFIU ROU received the visit of MG Omer LAVOIE, Commander, 1st CAN DIV HQ, a fully deployable unit, trained to lead military operations, having under command all the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The Canadian HQ is the main decision point in regards to implementing into action all the orders issued by the Canadian Joint Operations Command and can lead operations on the full spectrum of conflict to meet national specified objectives:
• humanitarian operations at home and abroad;
• non-combatant evacuation operations for the safe evacuation of Canadians abroad;
• first rotation of personnel for future full-spectrum operations,
• provision of a National Command Element responsible for the strategic support of Canadian military assets and personnel.
Delegation members showed interest in the concept promoted by the NATO structures on Romanian territory, by attending a meeting with NFIU ROU personnel. The visit has offered the occasion to get informed on what NATO brings as novelty in the common effort of the allies in the region, in order to support the guarantee of collective defense and deterrence of any potential adversary on all the Alliance’s South-Eastern flank. The interest is based on the Canadian First Defence Strategy, which states the CAF’s clear contribution to international pace and security. The meeting concluded that NATO, with it’s force structure and commitments, demonstrates cohesion, vision, adaptability and continuity when the regional security climate is at stake. At the end of the visit, the commander of 1st CAN DIV signed the NFIU ROU Honor Book.
